The Little Mustang Challenge and Championship

The Little Mustang Challenge is the celebration of your graduation into responsible and confident horsemanship. When you have crossed this boundary, we are very proud of you and your accomplishments. The Little Mustang Challenge is a way for you to showcase your relationship with your horse and start a rewarding career in horsemanship.

According to BLM Terms of Adoption:
"A wild horse or burro belongs to the Federal government until the BLM issues you a Certificate of Title. After you have had the animal for one year, the BLM will send you a Title Eligibility Letter. You must obtain a signed statement from a qualified person (such as a veterinarian, county extension agent, or humane official) verifying that you have provided humane care and treatment for your adopted animal. Once you sign and return the Title Eligibility Letter, the BLM will mail the Certificate of Title to you. After you receive the Certificate of Title, the animal becomes your private property.
Note: There are no additional Federal fees involved in the titling process."

What this means is that 1 year after you initiate your journey toward horsemanship through the V.E.T.S. Livestock Management Services Organization, Inc. enrollment in the Mustang Heritage Foundation's Trainer Incentive Program you may ask us to provide you with a signed statement which will be sent to the BLM who will provide you with the title to your Little Mustang.

If you have completed the 90 day, 36 lesson Introduction to Equine Ownership course and received your Certificate of I.E.O. Completion and you have requested and received your Certificate of Title from the BLM then you may enter the Little Mustang Challenge.
  • We are very proud of our Little Mustang Program and once you have met the above criteria you can have us put a hairpin brand on your horse's left cheek along with any other legal brand that you may want. Only Little Mustangs that have successfully completed our program and have been titled by the BLM to the original adopter will have both a hairpin and a BLM freeze-brand so this is really a trademark of accomplishment to be worn with pride. Keep in mind that you can also add your own bling and we do this all for you for free. This is kind of a rite of passage where we all openly display our pride in you, your horse and the partnership that the two of you have forged together.
